A few articles on the occasion:

From Hitchen's piece:
"And many adult reviewers of Brideshead have somehow managed to describe it as a languorous evocation of the "platonic" nature of English undergraduate affection."
[Raising hand sheepishly]: Guilty as charged.
But did Waugh certainly envision Sebastian and Charles as having a physical affair?
Later, when Bridey asks Charles if there is anything "vicious" in Sebastian's relationship with Kurt, Charles answers negatively. Is Charles lying? Is he deceived?
I suppose it's a cofession that I am not a sensitive reader, but I was never certain that Charles and Sebastian, though infatuated with each other, had a sexual relationship.

I don't know whether it was physically expressed, but it certainly seems to me that it was a sort of passionate infatuation.
