Amy, is this the monastery you talk about at the beginning of _The Words We Pray_?

Not usually anonymous

Amy, is it possible to get your old articles about the Conyers apparitions? Or, if not, could you do a post on that? I have a lot of dear friends who are very "into" them. I am not, but I would like to have some good, factual information from someone trustworthy.

Thanks.

jane

For sure, I like the paintings of the monks the best. The paint off is very cool idea.

What ever happend to those "apparitions" and Nancy Fowler? Didn't the pre milllenium decade bring about an amazing amount of visionaries and locutionist. Whatever happend to Fr. Gobbi?

I studied Southern Literature in college. Time to reread all of Flannery O'Conner.

>>>What ever happend to those "apparitions" and Nancy Fowler?

In 1999, Nancy Fowler broke ties with Our Loving Mother's Children (OLMC), the group that was started to spread news of the alleged "apparitions." Something about fundraising differences; see:

http://www.ourlovingmother.org/Georgia_Bulletin_March_11_1999.htm

A year later, OLMC evidently turned over the shrine to the Catholic Church. I don't know what happened after that, and AFAIK the Church still does not approve of the apparitions.

OLMC's website is www.conyers.org; Mrs. Fowler's website is http://www.ourlovingmother.org/

And I second what "Not usually anonymous" said; I'd like to read the articles as well, Amy. Are they available online?

Fr. Gobbi is still traveling and meeting with the cenacles of the Marian Movement of Priests...although not as much as before since he has a pretty serious heart condition. Here is the national website:

http://www.mmp-usa.net/main.html

and this is a portion of his annual letter from 2005:

Let us in the Marian Movement of Priests be particularly happy to welcome the Pope’s invitation and to unite ourselves with Mary in Cenacles of love, of adoration and of reparation to Jesus present in the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

In 2004, I was able to take part in regional cenacles in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, Peru, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Austria, Germany and Portugal. With 60 flights, I visited 105 cities and presided over 136 cenacles, in which 65 bishops, 1,900 priests and 450,000 faithful participated.

In Collevalenza [Italy], at the Spiritual Exercises [Retreat] held in the form of a continuous cenacle, one Cardinal, 24 archbishops and bishops, and about 300 priests from the five continents took part.

I am very united with you in your commitment to the Marian Movement of Priests, for the spread of the Cenacles among priests and faithful, particularly the family Cenacles.

Nancy Fowler appeared at the convention center in Indy in the 90s. I went with a group of ladies who were devotees of Medjugorje. After two hours of rambling pious bibble-babble, even they had had enough and we all walked out. There is not the remotest chance that anything supernatural was involved there, as I had already concluded from reading her book. She'd been to Medjugorje and caught apparition fever. A mere blip in the history of late 20th C popular Catholicism.
It's fine that Fr. Gobbi has inspired people to pray. But he made predictions based on his claims of private revelations that simply haven't come true. For example: message #389, of 18 September, 1988, claims that the ten years following will see "the culmination of the purification," "the completion of the time of tribulation," and "all the secrets which I have revealed to some of my children will come to pass and all the events which have been foretold to you will take place." Didn't happen. Fr. Gobbi's ideas on the Book of Revelation and the significance of the number 666 are his own eccentricities and ought not to have been attributed to the Blessed Mother. And no, I'm not impressed by the favor shown him by Pope John Paul II.

Hey I was there a couple of weeks ago and I saw the painters painting. I liked the book store and I bought The Seven Story Mountain. I had no idea that the monastery was related to the one which Thomas Merton belonged to.

Nancy may have broken ties with Mr Hughes over his misappropriation of funds but that certainly does not discredit what happened in Conyers. In fact, it is quite the opposite. She went bankrupt defending the mesages there from Mr. Hughes who wanted the publishing rights.

Nancy is still under the direction of a spiritual advisor in the Catholic Church. The Church never investigated the happenings in Conyers. They wait for the fruits to develope. Fatima and Lourdes was not a quick sanction either. Conyers was never condemed by The Church.

To see what happed to us there just last year check www.conyerswitness.com

Nancy Fowler impressed me as a caring and sincere person. Her talks were of great benefit to me. I was at the Indianapolis talk, I recorded it and still play it now and then. I believe signs and wonders were happening at Conyers. I recorded the testimonies of two people who saw the miracle of the sun there. One was a man from Ohio who drove down each month to volunteer. Another was a woman from Florida who was in the Navy. These two had no reason to lie to me; they were reluctant to tell their stories.

I understand that no one is obliged to believe private revalations. Certain speakers don't appeal to everyone. It's important to be cautious, but we can't ignore the facts.
