To the West

Tomorrow we are headed to Chicago. Leaving in the morning, meeting some friends from Florida for lunch (no, it's not halfway - they're visiting family in town), then doing ..I don't know what for the rest of the day. On Friday I speak to, I believe, hundreds of college students gathered at this event. I do believe it is sort of odd to bring hundreds of college students to Chicago between Christmas and New Years, but I suppose if they did it in Florida or someplace warm...no one would come to the talks!

Weather wasn't too nice today here in the Windy City, but no snow storm, at least.

I once attended the annual Canadian University Press convention, which is held the week between Christmas and New Year's. It was in Winnipeg, Manitoba that year. Talk about cold....:-)

Good luck with all that. I don't live in the city, but I hope to be in Chicago for the New Year's Eve mass at St. John Cantius church.

Not that you asked, but my idea of a perfect day in Chicago: get breakfast at Ann Sathers or Clarkes ("Oh my, you should eat!",) get a gander of the miniature rooms at the Art Institue, get burgers at Topnotch, get allergy attack sifting through feline infested used books and sheet music at Selected works, and get holier praying Liturgy of the Hours at John Cantius.
(Too bad you weren't there with your children for Holy Innocents last night.)

Good luck. I'm praying you and your family have fun and that your talk strikes a chord in the students heart. Teaching is a gift (educare - to lead) and the fingerprints of a true teacher are all over your blog - leading, not forcing or coercing - so that one seemingly discovers.
