At St. Peter's

Michael has started blogging about the trip - starting with his early-morning visits to St. Peter's

Then I encountered an image from the past. Priests vested in green, all with their backs to me at the many side altars were offering Mass in the new rite in the old way. As I would walk by a different language would greet me.

On my second trip to Rome(WYD y2k was the first) - a seminary class pilgrimage which afforded us the luxury of three weeks in the Eternal City - I was really moved by the seemingly endless procession of priests emerging from the sacristy for the morning Masses at St. Peter's. All priests of God, alteri christorum of different races, from various continents (the four corners of the world) speaking myriad languages, vested in the same simple (noble simplicity) green chasuble, all heading to their assigned altars to offer the same Holy Sacrifice of Calvary. This is a part of Rome that so very few pilgrims ever see. If you are reading this blog and you ever decide to go to Rome, Sacrifice at least one morning's sleep to go to St. Peter's for the morning Mass(es). Arrive a little early and go stand by the sacristy door (about midway up on the south side) and watch all the priests file out, you will be moved by the Catholicity, the universality of the Church.

yes, I should not have capitalized catholicity in this case!
