Trying to help

Hospitals...including one Catholic system in the Southwest - getting on board with offering free care to the uninsured, particularly those with chronic problems, who end up in the ER all the time.

Hmm. If this is the NYT reacting to feedback they got on their four (five) part screed against the scourge of church/faith non-profits, i'm encouraged. It could be coincidence, but i just so rarely believe in coincidence with these folks right now. So i guess i'm encouraged, not that they'll ever admit it was negative reaction that provoked this story's placement.
