Resigned

Bishop Carl Moeddel, Cincinnati auxiliary, has resigned at the age of 69. Bishop Moeddel has serious health problems, I believe, including a recent stroke.

Bishop Moeddel suffers from vascular dementia, according to a story Catholic World News linked to yesterday.

Wow. That's very sad. Please pray for Bishop Moeddel, and for our archbishop, who also has health problems.

OTOH, this does make it definite that the Vatican will be sending us somebody totally new when our archbishop's retirement age comes. We really need somebody who's holy and an inspiring teacher, and also has a good grasp of how to run a diocese. Please pray for us.

For a minute I thought that said Carl Mengeling, Bishop of Lansing. No, not yet. Whew! I mean, I know he's past the age, but he's been sick and all ...
